More on the Branch activities and projects:
Workshop by Prof. Richard Orem
With the financial support of the US Embassy in Baku, AzETA organised workshop of Prof. Richard Orem in its branches on 11-16 November 2008. Prof. Orem of Northern Illinois University, US was invited to the AzETA 5th International ELT Conference held on 8-9 November 2008. On 11 November he visited Khachmaz and gave a workshop for its members. There were 20 members attending the workshop.
The main topic of the workshop was how to involve learners in assessing their learning. It was a unique opportunity for the Khachmaz teachers to participate in a workshop by an American professor. The teachers were very happy for the opportunity.
Teacher trainers from AzETA Head Office also visit Khachmaz Branch to train a group of teachers there. All together 5 training sessions were organised in the school year of 2007-2008. The first session was organised on 3 November 2007. The other sessions were held on: 15 March, 26 April, 24 May and 22 June 2008 respectively. Teacher trainers from AzETA Head Office responsible for the training sessions in Khachmaz Branch are: Elnara Mammadova and Vafa Abdullayeva
Working with Young Learners
The Branch has been included in AzETA English Access Microscholarship Programme from December 2007. There are 18 students in Khachmaz EAMP 2007-2009 and 12 students in EAMP 2008-2010 groups. The classes are organised in AzETA Khachmaz Branch Office. The classes are taught by AzETA Khachmaz Branch members. For more on the Project, please, visit the below site: //www.az-eta.org/eamp.php
Khachmaz Branch has also joined another project of AzETA. With the financial support of the US Embassy, AzETA launched branches of Enjoy English Club in all its branches, including Khachmaz Branch in 2007. There are 20 students in each branch. The classes are taught by the teachers of the respective AzETA Branch. The Project is supported by the Ministry of Education, where the Education Departments of the respective regions have been instructed to provide support to the implementation of the Project. Like other branches, AzETA Khachmaz Branch members also actively join AzETA study tours and share their knowledge and experience with others. Khachmaz Branch was the last to host the study tour of AzETA branches in 2006. It was organised on 26 May 2006. As this was the last study tour scheduled for the school year 2005-2006, AzETA made this an event more than a study tour. Andy Keedwell, English Programmes Manager of the British Council in Yerevan (2004-2007) joined the study tour and had a plenary talk titled: Learn, Teach and Associate which made the study tour a memorable event. The study tour was joined by the representatives of Khachmaz Education Department who welcomed AzETA’s initiative to support regional teachers through different events.
Peace Corps Volunteers from Sheki, Zaqatala, Ganja and Mingechevir were also actively involved in the study tour and contributed to the discussions of the action plans of the branches.
The Branch is preparing to host AzETA 5th Regional ELT Conference on 23 May 2009. Like in Qebele, this Conference is also intended to be held in the open air, weather permitting. Although Khachmaz Branch has experience in organising a large-scale event from organising the Study Tour, through organising this Conference the Branch Management will gain conference organising skills and build on their experiences.
