1st ELT Conference of AzETA Barda Branch

AzETA Barda Branch hosted its 1st ELT Conference on 24 December 2016 at School #5 after Martyr Ali. Tofiga Mammadova, prominent English teacher of Azerbaijan, AzETA Barda Branch Manager and Director of Barda Secondary School #4 opened the Conference and welcomed the participants. She highlighted the activity directions of Barda Branch and aims and mission of the Conference. AzETA Founder and President Ragsana Mammadova had a floor and welcomed the Conference participants from different parts of Azerbaijan. She congratulated the first Barda Branch Conference and mentioned that this Conference was the start to the series of events to celebrate AzETA’s 20th Anniversary which will be finalized at the AzETA 12th International Conference to be held in May 2017. She sincerely congratulated AzETA members on the occasion of 20th Anniversary of the organization they belong to and wished success to the work of the Conference.

Rzagulu Sharifov, Honorary Teacher of Azerbaijan, Head of Barda Education Department, who always supports AzETA Barda Branch activities, welcomed the participants and emphasized the impact of such conference in professional development of teachers. He wishes best of luck to  AzETA in its activities and to the work of the Conference.

His speech was followed by the entertainment programme of AzETA Barda Branch activists.

After the official opening, Mary Catherine Boehmer, US Embassy English Language Fellow gave a short talk on “English as a Global Language”.

After the lunch, AzETA Ismayilli Branch Manager Ruhiyya Mahmudova made a talk on her presentation together with Kamala Nasirova, AzETA South Branch Manager at the TESOL France Conference held on 18-20 November in Paris, France.

Then the participants attended workshops of their peers at the concurrent sessions.

At the closing ceremony Ragsana Mammadova thanked and congratulated Barda Branch for a successful conference. Irrespective of a cold weather, the warmth of the environment made it warm for everybody and thanks to this warmth, volunteer and selfless work AzETA has been continuing to give contribution to Azerbaijan education: “AzETA members are selfless which makes this organization different. This organization unites selfless and professional specialists who do not only take, but also are ready to give. In this cold winter day all our colleagues united their efforts and did their best for the conference to become a success and thus, made another success story in AzETA’s history. I heartily congratulate and thank each of you for your selfless work.”

Flora Poladova, British Council representative also attended the Conference and gave a presentation on different projects of British Council for teachers, students and parents.

More than 70 teachers from Baku, Barda, Ganja, Goygol, Ismayilli, Mingechevir and Sheki attended the Conference. 12 of them gave workshops on different topics.

AzETA Executive Board members visited Barda Branch

AzETA Executive Board members, AzETA Vice-presidents Hijran Huseynova and Sudaba Sadigova, Branch Managers’ Co-ordinator Gamar Rustamova visited Barda Branch on 10 October 2016 to have a meeting. The below issues were discussed at the meeting:

  1. Promotion of video titled “My favourate Shakespeare moment” dedicated to 450th year of Shakespeare’s death within AzETA “Digitial Online Resources’ project funded by the British Council
  2. AzETA 12th International Conference
  3. Mini-conferences in AzETA branches
  4. Enrolment of new members

After the meeting Sudaba Sadigova gave a workshop titled “What survival skills our students need for their future. What kind of activities help students develop their survival skills”.

Mingechevir Branch members also participated at the event.

Barda Branch members attended Mingechevir Branch conference

In its Action Plan for 2015-2016 academic year, one of the tasks for AzETA branches was to organize study tours among branches, host conferences, seminars. AzETA Mingechevir Branch was the first to approach AzETA Executive Board with the wish of hosting its ever first conference of teachers. The Conference was held on 26 March 2016. AzETA Barda branch members attended the conference and some of them gave presentations on different topics.

 

Dr Erdem Soylemez had a seminar for Bard Branch members

With organizational support of AzETA, Dr.Erdem Soylemez. Education Expert of Turkey had a seminar in Barda for Branch members on 25 March 2016. Rzagulu Sharifov, Honorary Teacher of Azerbaijan, Head of Barda Education Department welcomed Dr Soylemez and thanked him for his support in professional development of teachers of Azerbaijan.

 

Meeting with “Promoting British Council Digital Online Resources Project” teachers

Under the “Promoting British Council Digital Online Resources Project”, AzETA President Ragsana Mammadova, Vice-President Hijran Huseynova and AzETA Executive Board member Sudaba Sadigova visited AzETA Barda Branch on 27 February to meet the Project teachers.

AzETA members from Goygol and Mingechevir attended the meeting. Mr Rzagulu Sharifov, Head of Barda Education Department welcomed the participants and wished best of luck to AzETA in its endeavours towards contributing to English teaching in Azerbaijan.

Tofiga Mammadova, Barda Branch Manager welcomed the participants and made a presentation on the activities of the Branch scheduled for 2016 where she specially highlighted Promoting British Council Digital Online Resources Project. Metanet Guliyeva and Sema Ahmedova, Barda Branch members gave a presentation on the training held in Baku on 6-7 February where they had been trained on the ways of effective usage of British Council online resources.
